I think I'd need the female-female coupler out of the universal kit to make it work with the ZX-9R aluminum shift lever.

The coupler would increase the overall length of the entire linkage so a shorter shift rod on the aft end could make this work.
Ok got it. :)

@vcyclenut just mailed back my ECU today and it should arrive later this week, so time to install the @Gravesport velocity stacks.

DNA filter is a little dirty

Image

Poor little aviator didn't make it

Image

The installation video on YouTube by @Chuck Graves was really helpful in getting the old stacks off with as little elbow grease needed as possible to get all the adhesive off.

Image

Now I wait for the ECU to arrive.

Image

Lastly, the silicone tubing I bought for the gas tank vent after deleting the evap canister didn't work well. It tore when I tried removing it from the tank.

Image

So I bought the Kawasaki tube instead

Image

The Kawasaki tube is on the left and you can see it's thinner wall.

Image

Has a nice bend in it to mate up to the outlet. I think this will work better.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I ordered a shift lever, PN 13042-1848 which is made of aluminum and shorter than the stock steel one on the ZX-4RR.

Unfortunately it won't work since the ZX-4RR has female threads and this one has male.

I guess I'll keep looking. The stock steel one is heavy and ugly. Getting a shorter one will also make the travel shorter, albeit at the expense of slightly more effort. I've found this mod to work well on other Kawasaki's.
I've used this shifter on many builds. It's little taller than stock but it has worked fine on my FZR 400's.

ECU should arrive tomorrow so I cleaned and oiled the DNA air filter and buttoned up the airbox.

@Chuck Graves tip on how to reinstall self tapping screws into the plastic without creating new threads is really smart. Learned something new.

ECU is back and bike is ready to ride, but I decided to finally install the @Gravesport OEM graphics kit.

Point of no return

Here's a video:

And pics of the result. I'm really happy with it! Thank you @Chuck Graves for allowing a poser like me to have a taste of your awesome race bike livery 🙇🏻

You put the graphics on the OEM fairings and not the @Gravesport fairings?

I don't know that I have the stomach to peel off the factory decals, but the end result looks fantastic. Well done. I am looking forward to hearing how it performs with the velocity stacks and updated tune.
Once the first ones started coming off, I was on a roll and it was a blast seeing the bike "naked" 🤣

I'll be riding in the Sequoia Nat'l Forest (Kernville, CA) this weekend and will give a full report on how the bike feels now.

🤣 Well of course I did! That's what they were made for.

They sell one kit for the OEM bodywork:

And another kit for race bodywork:

Honestly, the more I look at the Graves graphics, the more I like them better than the stock stickers. When I get my spare set of OE plastics, I'll be ripping all those stickers off too and replacing them with the Graves kit. 😎

This is totally subjective, and I don't expect everyone to like it but I'm pumped to have what looks like a Graves race bike. I'll keep spending the money I need to make sure it has all their performance mods to back it up too!

I knew right away that I made the right choice when the stickers started going on, but here are a few details that I like better than OEM

Framing the RAM air looks really nice and makes the intake much more prominent. Also the ZX-4RR graphics under the headlight are a nice touch.

The progressive dot matrix accents is not something I would have picked on my own, and it sure works nicely with their overall theme.

Then the tail. Kawasaki had one little sticker there and the Graves setup just takes the blank canvas and really spruces it up.

Image

The dark Graves logo under the tail is a subtle touch I liked.

Image

Then the lowers with all the 3rd party stickers sets it apart, and as long as I keep spending money to buy the stuff on the stickers I guess I'll be ok! 🤣

Image

The front fender went from Plain Jane to yowzer! The large flange titanium bolts pop a little more now and I guess I'll be running Dunlops on the bike from now on with that logo there 😁

Image

Lastly, the tank stripes and Graves logo blend so good into the rest of the stickers...unfortunately it's hard to convey.

I took the KRT sticker off the fender without realizing the Graves kit has an accent that works with it. I decided I want it back on. I shouldn't have removed it, so I'll order another one for a bazillion dollars from Kawasaki

I think it would be cool to keep the original stickers on the OEM fairings and do the graves stickers on the graves fairings. Switch between the two when you wants to switch it up.

That's about a 5 1/2 drive for me. I want to go there someone, but I'm not sure if I would do it on Swampy.

It's a 5 hour drive for me too. I go once a year to hang with my ZRX people. This is the first year I'm not taking the ZRX and bringing the 4RR instead 😬

The motorcycle will be tucked away inside my van for the 5 hour drive. I'll post some pics.
You're not riding it all the way there?

Yeah I'm a fan of the livery too but something inside me says to keep the stock livery on the bike. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Once the OEM stickers are removed there's no turning back. 🥺

It would be sic to have the @Gravesport graphic kit on the street or track. One of a kind statement.
It adds a few hp, breaks necks, and the floss appeal is ego building as well. 😂

Alas my budget is spent.
Being in the fence doesn't help either.
Enjoy the ride @AV80R it's a beaut. 🥰🤙

Thanks! I plan on riding this bike into the ground until the wheels fall off of it. I lost all affection for its originality very fast and look at it as a disposable item that will eventually be replaced (probably with another 4RR!)

Looks like you did a great job installing the graphics kit!

I'm planning on converting my bike to this kit next month. How difficult would you say it was to do all the graphics? Any tips would be appreciated. I even reached out to some wrap shops to see if I could get a quote but nothing promising yet.
