The rubber bib kept 95% of the gunk from spreading all over the engine after I rode in the snow/rain. It limited the accumulation of gunk to the front of the block and also the radiator fan & shroud.

if you only ride on nice days, I bet you'll be fine without that rubber bib in place.

Good to know on the valve cover bolts needing a check while mine is still in the naked state.
I'll be checking those for torque spec along wThe other bolts while I'm at it.
Thanks for the heads up tip. 👍
Might be more crucial to check once you actually have some miles on your bike.

The TightTail aluminum racing fairing stay is supposed to be delivered today, so I started removing the harness from the stock stay.

Removed the seat latches and installed the Graves bracket for the tailsection.

Nothing is nearly in the right place but couldn't resist a rough mock up.

Once the fairing stay arrives I'll get serious.

Yeah I'm a fair weather rider and stay away from wet roads and rain.
I've been caught in a few rain storms when I had the KZ400 decades ago with no issues except for the rain feeling like bees stinging my chest. 😂

Yeah you're right but I've got the bike apart so might as well make sure all is torqued to spec. 👍

Good thing these fairings are so easy to take on/off. I've probably done it 20 times already fine tuning everything for clearance before it goes off to get painted.

I particularly like how the upper and lower are mounted independently of the side fairings.

And here is the final result before paint.

man, this looks so nice already. Cant wait to get mine to that point soon as well. I'm a big fan of how the tight tails and the front ties together. I think this is the best possible solution right now.
I see you started sanding already, do you think this will be a lot to do? Did you had to trim around the tank a lot? I got a dremel as well, what kind of tool where you using?

Lots of trimming back on the seat and on the side fairings around the tank.

Also had to obviously remove material for the exhaust pipe on the belly pan.

Shaved some off the right side fairing to clear the right side engine cover protection. Also had to relieve some around the right frame slider hole.

I used a coarse half round bastard file. I like to go very slow by hand since a Dremel can take too much off too quickly.

My favorite saying is "I keep cutting but it's still too short!" 🤪

I did use a hacksaw to modify the fairing stay and then finished it off with the file.
