1st oil change at 500 using kawi oil then change again at 1000 with what ever you want to use
or
1st oil change at 500 use what ever you want and ride it like you stole it

all my race bikes have motul 300V 10/40

if you're not ringing its neck you can use kawi or ecstar

same filter as N400

I have a bunch of Valvoline 10w40 synthetic oil for my bikes. Seems to work fine. $8/qt.

 

I've used Mobil 1 4T for my bikes and they've never done me wrong. Will be using the same for ZX4R.

 

Has anyone done their first oil change yet? This is my first bike with fairings and was wondering if there was a guide to follow for doing an oil change on this bike.

 

Oil drain is easy to reach without pulling any fairings, but it's too tight to get the filter off without pulling bodywork. I was able to just remove 2 bolts on the left side, and pull out 4 pop pins, and that gave enough room to work without pulling the lowers off completely.

I did notice that the oil filters that I bought have a different last 4 digits in the p/n from the one originally on the bike. It was also made in Thailand, but the ones I bought are Kawasaki ones made in China. They look the same though, and are the same ones used on my Z900RS.

I was slightly disappointed to not see a magnetic drain plug, but oh well.

 

On your oil filter did you get -0008 instead of -0552? If so I had the exact same issue at my kawa dealer. They told me is was compatible when I questioned them about it.

 

Seems they use the 0008 model almost across the board. I’ve had 6 different models that all use that same filter. It’s actually convenient so I can just keep a stock of them and all of my bikes are easily taken care of.

 

When I do, I'll be using a Fram Ultra XG6607 along with synthetic Motul..

First oil change was with Kawi filter and Kawi Dino oil at 250 miles. I’ll go to Motul 7100 at the third oil change.

Can't help with a P/N, but it's 10W/40.

I compared the Motul 7000 synthetic to this oil via their data sheets and the RP is superior in many specs that count for quality lubrication and clutch performance.

Been a RP man for some time and has always been a great oil.
Blackstone Labs sent back a great report on the oil for my car after a 6,000 mile oil change interval.
Plenty left on the RP HPS high zinc formula oil to keep on going even after 6k miles and no I'm not easy on my not so stock fully tuned car either. 😈😇

So after my own comparison with data sheets, I came to the same conclusion. Will be running RP 10w40 in the 4RR..

Although I will continue to run Motul 2t in the KTM.

 

Would the K&N oil filter that the NInja400 uses fit the same on the ZX4RR? Haven't seen them release a specific one for it but I think it should work the same. My only concern is the fitment and threading. Thoughts?

 

They're the same and interchangeable.

 

Can’t help but notice no one’s mentioned RP. Ran it and a k&n on the n400. No complaints. When I got the ZX4RR bike home the first night had a little oil coming from the full cap, was a smidge loose. Topped with RP until the first oil change .

I'm reviving this thread for some more oil talk. I I read this article and wonder if you agree with it or not and why.

 

I've never paid much attention to oil talk tbh, I use whatever came with the engine when I purchased it.

I did post my ZX6R oil test results from Blackstone and everything is looking good after 13k miles on the same type of oil that came from the factory. I've used both Lucas and Kawasak oil brands.

 

I'll be doing an oil analysis with Blackstone with my next oil change. I do it on every oil change I do on my pickup.

Do you wait until 13k miles or do it at least once a year? I don't know how many miles a year you do on your motorcycle, but I don't see myself doing that many miles a year on mine. I will do an oil change at least once a year.

 

Motul 5100 10W40 like we use on 80% of our bikes. Very affordable, semi-synthetic, and esther included.

 

Did anyone suffer clutch slipping with RP Max Cycle? I have changes the clutch, Springs, Cable till slipping. only variable left is the RP Max Cycle!!! any advice?

 

I'm about to convert to the RP Max Cycle for both of my Ninjas.
How many miles on the bike with the RP oil?
