Overheating.

Well, it seems my fans aren't working to cool the radiator. Going to have to take it back to Kawi and get it sorted. 2 stoplights worth of not moving and it's hitting Hi-Temp warning and light.

This definitely cannot be right.

I would have a peek at fuses and wiring and plugs before letting the dealer at it, but yeah this is technically Kawasaki's problem under warranty, even if you spot the issue. What you know is that the temp sensor is working, and that the fan is not -- so that suggests a power electrical issue (relay / fuse / wire / plug / ground / electric motor) and not thermostat / sensor. Should not take long to pinpoint if so.

My Speed Triple 1200 RS also had a cooling fan issue, these things happen.

Just took it for a ride and have left the key "on" after turning engine off, then letting the heat creep up. The fan DOES indeed run once the temp passes 100 deg Celsius, and it just shut back off at 96.

Just concerning seeing as I rode the bike for about 50 minutes, doing 60ish mph in 6th gear (so like 6-7k rpm zone) and I guess the heat soak from such a "tame" ride is enough to throw the bike into high temp zone as soon as I'm not doing any speed. I literally had stopped at a couple lights to get through town after a 50 minute cruise.

The bike "cruised" at that speed today in 20 degree Celsius weather, giving engine temps of 80. then spiked like a wildman to 110+ in no time flat

Is the thermostat opening up?

I don't believe this is the case. No way is 399cc throwing off enough heat to do be unable to cool itself at idle. Water pump faulty? Low coolant? Just let the dealer figure it out.
these bikes are running hot for some reason, i have hoses coolant and 2.0 rad cap and it still runs quite warm, but then again I'm running it raggid in 90' heat
What is the level in the coolant overflow tank (when engine cold)?

It's at the full line on the overflow reservoir. I will check fuses when I get a chance, who knows at this point. Dealers are all so far away, too.... fml.
If the fan is actually working and proper coolant level in system (not just the reservoir), the next stop I guess is the thermostat like J D suggested.

Do you think it's running hot even after tune?
@russinbussin normal OT in 88'+ weather just riding is around the 180+ mark. at a traffic light it shoots up to 210+ and fan kicks in and comes down a little. you can see my vids and see the variations of temp in each setting. @m249saw will be riding with us this sunday and i will see how his bike is running compared to mine that is fully tuned

Same here, stock bike, temp climbs at stop lights, fan kicks in over 210, nothing unusual. I want to say like 217 actually but I'd have to go check.

Can't wait! Temps for me this last week was around 210-220F at idle, 180-190F cruising. I was riding in 70-80 degree weather, in the Northeast.

I've seen 222° for longer than I wanted to. I'm used to fans kicking on and temp start to go down. This fan kicks on at 210 I shouldn't see 215°.

I'm in San Diego and haven't seen the fan kick on once or any excessive temps while beating on the bike hard in the canyons.

210 max seen here in Alabama so far. Haven't been in traffic yet, and we don't plan to be in it!

We had similar conversations on the N400 forums with the temp gauge going up to 5 bars on a 6 bar temp gauge.

It wound up to na normal for the stock bike and once tuned the tuner would usually have the fan temp turn on at a lower temperature to maintain a better heat threshold.

I wonder if the tunes coming out from the various tuners are doing the same with these 4RR tunes?
@Gravesport @vcyclenut Any input guys?

My fan seems to kick on at 212 and Temps peak at 215 which is higher than any other vehicle I've owned. Cruising is around 190. I always thought your coolant shouldn't go over 212 water boiling point.

Pressure raises the boiling temp, which is why you never ever open a hot radiator cap. Loss of pressure, the coolant instantly boils and violently blows out.

Web search says 50/50 is actually 223F boil point, and a 15 psi cap raises that by 45F! So then 268F, spicy.
