How does the dealership work?

840 Views 18 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Florida lime
I paid and signed all paperwork for the zx4rr. They had the vin and shows on Kawasaki site that this California dealership has 1 in stock. He said they should be able to deliver it later this week but doesn't know where the bike is currently but said it's already invoiced. Not sure what that means.

If you guys are waiting, have you signed paperwork or just deposits and receipt? I can't always trust sales but I don't want to have to wait until June.

Do dealerships order the bikes prior or manufacturers ship based on sales volume? When does the dealership receive the vin? Does anyone know the steps on how a dealership received a new model bike?

Thanks

I walked in the dealership a month ago looking for a ninja 650 thinking there was no way they had a zx4rr in my small dealership and if they did if was long gone. Talked to the dealer and he said they had one allocated to them. Put my deposit that same day and have been told as of last Friday I get the bike in 3 weeks. Haven’t signed any papers yet.

They receive the VIN, and are invoiced once the bike is shipped to them. At that point, it's off Kawasaki's hands, and into the dealer's.

Larger dealerships may receive their bikes before smaller ones, and are often allocated bikes that may be available in numbers less than the number of dealers in the country.

Thanks for the info. So when my sales guy says it’s already invoiced means it is with them? Can you clarify on shipped to them? Is it still in transit or somewhere within the dealership?

Invoiced means to that dealership. Usually being shipped by truck, enroute to the dealer. Some large dealers may have a separate warehouse depending on their facilities and location, but if they had it within the shop itself, they'd tell you.
I don't pay until the bike is sitting in front of me ready for me to take the key and ride off. Had one stolen before it reached me. Deposits only here.

Never had one stolen like that, but I only pay in full after verifying the bike is in the expected condition. Still the case for many bikes that I did the uncrating, set-up, and PDI on myself.

Thanks. Just when I was worried, sales guy texted me and said it’s ready to be delivered tomorrow. Serviced and all ready.

Just went into the dealership and asked when my bikes gets here and they said it’s ready for delivery meaning 7-14 days according to them.

They delivered today!! I thought I bought a lemon when I test rode it. I was thinking this inline 4 torque is non existent. Got home and noticed it was in rain mode. Road mode feels a lot better.

Yeah, quite the difference in rain vs road mode.
Lol I haven't taken mine out of Sport yet.
That'll probably be the default setting most of us will be using on our bikes. 😂
I know I will unless grandpa mode kicks in for me feeling chillaxed for riding that day. 👴🏻😛

I put a deposit on one and was given a receipt that said bill of sale on it and included the VIN on it on 5/13 and was told it would be delivered to the dealership on 5/18. I thought I would be riding it that weekend. It didn’t get delivered last week and still hasn’t been delivered as of today.

I put a deposit down on May 10th for a zx4rr arriving in May or June…. The dealership won’t know anything more until it arrives in port from Japan…. (Either Vancouver or Toronto)…. Once it arrives in port it should take about a week to be at the dealership.

It’s amazing that if I order a car or pickup I can track it the whole way, but with the motorcycle no one knows, including the dealer, when it will be there until it’s delivered to the dealership. It can be frustrating.

On a positive note, my bike was delivered today and it’s sitting in my garage now.

Can't remember which, but it's either Ducati or BMW that can tell you exactly what stage and where your bike is at any time from build to deliver.

BMW. You can also track it going across the ocean, and even know the name of the ship it's on.
