Based on the discussion in my member introduction thread, I thought that opening a topic here would be a better place for the conversation.

My Intro post is here: New Member from Canada

Cliff notes are that the Canadian Model appears to be limited to 11,500 RPM due to noise restrictions.

I thought that it was maybe due to an error or something but it appears that it is looking like that is the case.

Welcome to the forum @Aurex! Have you heard of the noise restrictions before on other bikes? Or is this a first?
This is the first time that I have seen a model affected by something like this. I do not keep track of models/manufacturers that I do not take interest into, so it may have happened before and I am unaware.

I am hoping that there is a simple workaround for it. My fear is that the internals like camshafts might be different and it won't be as simple as a reflash to increase the potential of the bike/motor.

I can say that all the excitement I had for this bike is waning due to this. I have been doing a little bit of sluthing that I can and it appears that the RPM limit is in place for Canada. I am still committed to taking a look at the dealer once one lands. Perhaps there will be a 'track pack' that you use on the track only ;)

The European press is showing hp numbers for their versions due in 2024. 77hp unassisted, 80hp with ram air.
Unfortunately, it appears the US version is down 10hp from that due to some sort of restriction also. Word is that Graves Motorsports has one, and they are working with it now.

I wonder if there'll be a way for you and other riders to unlock the limiter and get the full power from the bike.

It's not making me too upset that "on paper" this bike shows up as a 56hp machine, simply because thats the paperwork the insurance companies use to figure out how much insurance will be for the bike.

I'd imagine that a 56hp bike is less to insure than a 80hp bike, 399cc or not. Heck, you'd probably save more in insurance in the first year than the ECU flash cost, simply because of how neutered the bike is!

No matter what it's tune, it's got an engine that is capable of 16k rpm and it's only a matter of time until that's available to use one way or another.

Looking forward to this amount of race tech in a 400 and seeing what people ultimately do with it.

Canada. OH I know. If there is a law or a rule Canada will have it. It's probably illegal to pass gas in public.

Anyway, I already knew they would mess with that but it's no biggy for me. I need a season to re-learn and dodge a few buses that come at me here and there so the power loss will help me stay comfortable. Also, I'll just lie to everyone anyway, "Running 112hp requires skill and guts, remember that. Respect but own the bull or you'll get the horns".

I'll ecu it later. Stupid Canada.

Nah it's not "noise regulations" related, that's just the public facing legal statement ... it's the same problem that liter bikes have had for years, none pass emissions when uncorked to run as designed. Don't know why they ran with an rpm limiter, but just reflash and move on.

The Honda RC 213V-S had a similar rpm limit to it for different markets, as low as 6000 RPM in Japan. Instead of putting a different muffler on it they just lowered the rev limiter until it passed, since they would all get tuned anyways.

I would be shocked if they had different internals for the different markets on the ZX4RR.

My thinking is less about the HP, and more about dropping the weight on my bike when it arrives. 415 lbs is about 45 pounds heavier than I'd like to enjoy in the corners on a bike of this size.

Besides loving Kawasaki motorcycles, and wanting a 400 superbike since the 90's I'm looking forward to doing track days and not having other riders pass me dangeriously faster on the straights!

I'm not too worried. I believe Kawasaki will continue to make some of the fastest motorcycles in the world, and easy for owners of the ZX4RR to get the full potential out of them.

My personal speculation is that Kawasaki didn't release HP for the US market because they wanted to get as many of these bikes as possible in the hands of the riders who will truely love ( i.e ride) the bikes for what they are and Not because of how much horsepower they may or may not have.

This is going to be a motorcycle that puts that grin from ear-to-ear on your face. The bike you choose over the others in your garage because of how amazingly fun it is to ride.

Just my personal opinion. 🙏
